The initial attack infiltrated through the southern rear entrance of the kibbutz, near the cow pen. The attackers entered the residential area (the New Fields neighborhood). The settlement's special security unit and the "Yamas" counter-terrorism police unit engaged in fierce fighting, killing several of the attackers. Over the next three hours, the remaining "Yamas" officers and the settlement's special security unit fought on and successfully repelled most of the initial attack.
