1938 New England Hurricane: Newport
This is one of the oldest USGS aerial images. That devasting hurricane hit the US from 21 to 23 of September, 1938. It was one of the deadliest and most destructive tropical cyclones to strike the east coast. What we see from the image here is all already cleaned, after many constructions on the beaches were wiped out. Easton's Beach (middle-north of image) and Bailey Beach (south of image) were completely devasted. -Compare with actual images and old images of the event. Date: This image depicts Newport, Rhode Island, 3 months after the hurricane, on 13th Dec 1938 Source: USGS/EROS-Archive Aerial Photography - Single Frames [Newport Daily News Story](https://www.newportri.com/story/lifestyle/2013/09/22/i-was-never-so/12742611007/) ; [Newport hurricane in Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1938_New_England_hurricane)
